Topeka MiDiv divisional August 2-3

Post by JimR » Tue Jun 24, 2008 9:49 pm

As I mentioned on Sunday, registration just opened for the fourth and final Midwest Divisional autocross of the season:

http://www.myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frm ... nt_id=8508

Anyone with aspirations towards running Nationals there the following month should sign up. It will probably be a fairly well-attended event for that reason.

I don't know if the 300-entrant cap will be met, but it's probably a good idea to start making registration and hotel arrangements now if you want to go.

If you want to run a divisional this year, this is it. Fourth and final MiDiv event of the year.

HPT is a big open site with new slick/smooth asphalt. Easy on tires, if nothing else. Not so great for Nationals with a thousand people and two courses up and running at once, but pretty good for a single-course divisional, if you ask me.

It's a two-day event, with the best time from each day combined for overall score. If you've never done anything beyond a regional event, this is a good opportunity. HPT will not be available to autocrossers after 2008.

8) get signed up for this event.
It's the only event this year held on the Nationals site. We're running last years
Nationals courses...yeah...both of them!!! We're having the Saturday
night banquet at a new facility, and probably the most exclusive
restaurant in town. And its included for FREE in your entry fee. So,
I ask. Why haven't you signed up?

Plus, if you aren't happy with your timed runs on the first day at Topeka, you can while away your worries with "dollar runs" at establishments down the street. ;)

Do I want another crack at those courses? :?

Lord knows I wasn't at par when Chris I went last year especially considering the cast on my arm had been off for only 2 days prior.

Anybody that can fire up thier Delorean and blast ahead to see if it is going to rain?

It looks like about half a dozen OMR regulars will be there.

I'm surprised the event didn't break 150 people. If you also signed up for the test & tune, that's three days of runs on the Nationals surface less than two months before Nationals. If you're from the Midwest, what a break!

Here are the results:
http://www.myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frm ... nt_id=8508

You will need a MyAutoEvents login. If you're like me, you register for the event and immediately forget your username and password, then have to get it sent to you.

I didn't see Marky F there. You missed a beautiful weekend to be driving a black convertible! 100 in the shade. 135 on the asphalt. I laid a Hoosier on the polished concrete in the tech shed, and it made the Band-Aid removal sound when I picked it up a few minutes later.

Topeks

Post by budweeks » Mon Aug 04, 2008 7:49 pm

Hey Y'all,

Heat? What heat? Just kidding. Yeah, it was one of those times that being thin was an advantage. Trying not to think about it also helped. It also helped that I ran in the 1st heat and worked 2nd. I was feeling sorry for Bobby and Jim running the 3rd.

Even though I didn't do too well (4th out of 5), I came home encouraged because I learned so much about tire management. I discovered that I have been mismanaging my tires, especially in the high temps. By the 3rd runs on the second day, I finally had my pressures and shocks set better and was pretty competitive on raw time, but had cones on my last two runs. I was within a second of the Shelbys on Sunday on raw time which is well over a second improvement from previous encounters.

It was good to see Opie and Korry duking it out; congrates to Opie. I see that Bobby just missed, and it was good to see he and Jim doing well in the MR2. As always, it was good to race with Stan. It was good to see Chris too. And I met some great new people as well as reconnecting with some old friends..

The courses were great. I liked Sundays best, probably because I did better. That gate on the back side, where if you set up correctly you could just fly through, was my favorite part. That just about made the event for me. Of course if your car is finally handling well it helps. Kansas Region did a good job with organization, and we were done in the early afternoon both days.

See you on the 24th.

That was fun. After eight runs and two days we wound up being separated by only 0.036 second in raw time.

Unfortunately there were cones on my fast run Saturday, but it was still good stuff.
