That was an excellent course Jim, great job, and thanks for helping me out with grid. Curtis, thanks for making a full time job of just wrangling up helmets, that helped a lot, and we all owe a big thanks to Longpine for always working his a$$ off.

Most of the Results have been posted. I am having trouble with uploading the Class table to the new version of website (first time we have tried this), but the other 3 are there. I will post here when it gets figured out.

Thank you all for the kind words and Jim it was a great course, like always! I also wanted to tell everyone who was helping out beyond their work assignment that these events couldn't go this smoothly without your help. I sure appreciate it, thank you all.

I was on Corner #2 in the 2nd Heat, and the majority of DNF's I called were for the last gate before the "turnaround". If you'll look at m3kerry's vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M00VqyF6iBU right at the 17 to 18-second spot in the video - people were zigging right, instead of zagging left.

The next most-frequently DNF'd spot I called was at the 14 second spot: Again, people were going to the right of the gate, instead of left as m3kerry demonstrates. Note the 3 pointer-cones visible at 13-seconds.
Right at 11 seconds I think you can actually see where people were driving over the chalk line.

I believe you can also see the same for the other gate at about 17 seconds in.

DNF's

Post by Azonic » Mon May 25, 2009 10:05 pm

My DNF's came from the rough section of the course at the pavement changes...

Car was to unsettled there to get back on the power, and it spun me!

Then lack of turning radius (solid axle) meant off course to turn around!

Fun course!

My DNF came when my transmission went.

Curtis, thanks for the compliment, but I was lucky and barely ahead of the competition. I reached my goal of getting in the 38's, but just by a hair.
Korry was less than a tenth behind me and others were on his tail.
Bobby Jason in his v-8 RX7 is too fast. He smoked a 36 second time on his last run but hit a cone in the process, otherwise he would have been top PAX.
That sweeper after the turn-around was a blast. That would have been a perfect drifting corner for a show-off. I'm sure there were several "drifters", but I wasn't one of them for some anal reason that I was trying to be fast instead of wild.
That kind of course can be fun for all and fair for all.

I agree. Very good course. Making it wide enough to select different lines helps everyone.

There were some vastly different car types driven to the top ten in PAX:

3 Trans Am / Camaro / Mustang
2 Neon (Jim actually drove Bob's car)
1 M3
1 WRX
1 350Z
1 Corolla
1 ridiculous RX-7

Seems fair enough to me. More of that please. :D

Jim does a great job with course design. My part was to nod my head and say, "that looks great Jim." You guys are lucky to have a lot that size to run your local events on and have Jim.

For those that don't go to a lot of national events, that course is the type of course you get. Something that flows and each exit points you to the next element, so dnf's are at the minium.

Anyone know the total runs for the day vs dnf's?

327 runs
40 DNF's (about 1 out of every 8.)

I think the autox course design guide from the houston region says 1 in 10 but that does not take into account the number of newbies or non seasoned autocrosses in a region. That course did everything you could ask for, which is to point you at the next element.

I would say that alot of those DNFs don't count. There was quite a few during the rain which is kinda expected. Then you have something like my DNF and I just gave up as I knew I had screwed up that run so I didn't take the slalom.

Chalk lines don't count as a DNF. Only counts if you miss a cone. Chalk is only there as a "guide" and is not a "hard line". BUT - as I think you already knew that, I understand that you're pointing that out as evidence of missed cones.

I only called a DNF on someone when they totally missed a cone. I even had two drivers that "came back" for the cones they missed; but one of those re-entered the course at the wrong place (i.e. "downstream" of the cone they missed). The driver that corrected his missed-cone did not receive a DNF.
