So who's thinking about going to 100 acre woods this year?

Likely myself and my buddies Noah, Vance, and Matt.

The Holiday Inn Express where the racers stay was full several months ago, so we'll be at the Walnut Inn across the street.

We've been thinking about it, we've been thinking about it. I talked to the Volunteer-Coordinator a bit.

Maybe.

Volunteering is the best viewpoint. If there weren't four of us and only one car, we'd probably do that. You park at an intersection out in the woods to keep yokels off the course, and let common sense determine how close you get to the action.

100AW is now popular enough that most spectator areas have gotten a little crowded. The star power of Ken Block and Travis Pastrana might be driving that. Eating breakfast at the middle-of-nowhere diner one table over from Ken Block is kind of cool, though.

Don't know when it is, but I go to school here in rolla, if a few of you can't make it because it's to expensive, you're welcome to stay at my place. It's about a 20 minute drive from here.

How do I get to the best less crowded cool areas? My daughter, Dani, & I will probably be there Sat. And where is this small diner, Jim?

It's some greasy spoon attached to the Walnut Inn in Salem, across the street from the Holiday Inn where most of the ralliers stay.

We should meet at one good spectating spot. If you're not volunteering that is.

I'm riding as passenger with some friends, so I'm not sure of our itinerary. However, I know we'll be into Salem late on Thursday, then leave on Sunday.

Though I only got to see two spectator stages, it was a fun weekend. In fact, here's a great write-up about it on MotorAuthority:

http://www.motorauthority.com/blog/1042 ... -craziness

Little Rock's Daniel Vaught and Nelson Ireson, who have each autocrossed with us at OMR events in the past, entered an EF Civic hatchback in the G2 class for 2WD cars. The third member of their team had a family emergency and couldn't make it, so myself and a couple of friends were enlisted to help crew for their car. Heh, I was even listed as "Crew Chief" on the Rally America documentation. Higher calling? Maybe not.

The little Civic that could, in spite of rookie pilots and the least likely "mechanics" in the service area, finished the event in one piece. They even managed to beat a number of cars in their class. Real, grassroots-level stuff.
