OMRSCCA SOLO Event #2

Crowder Truck Driving School
Neosho, Missouri [Map]

Additional MotorsportReg instructions and details here. Please pre-register online to save time on the day of the event.

Event Information Car Numbers and Classes
Car Numbers are exclusive for this season, meaning only one person is allowed to run a number during the entire year no matter what class you are in (e.g. Car number 10 John Doe in SS, you would not be able to use 10 even if you ran a different class). During pre-registration, if a number is not shown when it is time to choose, then it is already in use this year.

Amenities
There are gas stations, WalMart, and fast food on Highway 59 about a mile North of the intersection of MO-D. There is no air available at the site, so prepare accordingly. Our friends at the Crowder College Trucking School usually grill lunch on-site at modest cost.

Directions from Springfield
Take I-44 to US 71 South, and exit at Highway 60 Neosho/Seneca. Go East to the light at US 59/71B (WalMart will be on your right). Turn right to go South on 59, and follow the signs for Crowder College and Highway MO-D. Turn left onto MO-D, and it will take you straight to Crowder College. Once you reach the stop sign at the entrance of Crowder, turn right onto Doniphan and head towards the windmill. Turn left onto National Guard Drive just past the windmill, and follow the SCCA signs and cones to the site.

Run / Work
Typically, half of the classes run in one heat, while other other half help work the event. Then we switch after lunch. Work assignments will be balanced to ensure even work coverage for all stations in all heats. If you show up late to the event or late to your work assignment, you may not be allowed to participate.

If we have over 80 entrants, we will go to a three-heat format:
  • Work heat 1 / Drive heat 3
  • Work heat 2 / Drive heat 1
  • Work heat 3 / Drive heat 2
Crowder College has asked us to sign a waiver at every event in addition to the normal SCCA waiver. If you have access to a printer, please print and fill out a copy in advance so you don't have to stand around filling one out at the gate to the site.

I heard back from Crowder this afternoon. They will not be providing lunch service this coming Sunday, 4/19/15. Pack your own. Keep in mind, when they do the grill lunches it is as a fundraiser for the Trucking School and it's done with an all volunteer crew. As it stands now, the days they are currently planning on grilling lunches for our events this year are June 13th and 14th (the Divisional we're hosting) and Oct 3rd and 4th.

I still can't believe that it didn't rain on us Sunday. Great event....everyone got 5 runs, it didn't rain, and I was headed home by 2 PM. That's approx. 275 runs timed and no safety issues.

Congrats to Mark Foley for top PAX.....dropped .9 sec. on final run! So what was fastest? Going inside or outside of the second slalom? I kept going inside but I wish I had tried it outside just to see what would happen.

Thanks again to all the hard-working and competent people who make our events so successful. And thanks especially to Scott Woosley for your willingness to be Solo Chair and to Matt Longpine for the great timing and scoring.

From iPad so short.

Wow Gregg is cranking out some good times! Very solid pax results two in a row.
Justin Andrews made a huge leap in speed. Lester and warren better step up. Season close now in xp. We'll see if it stays close.
Thought I had the ESP yahoos covered, but mark (I need bigger tires) foley found 0.9 seconds on that last run. Real solid. I think I could have found another .2-.3 but the 0.4 needed was beyond my abilities.
Bud is sneaky fast with that al gore car pax. If it rains we are all clobbered by bud. May be in trouble when bud gets his 2015 tires any way.
Scott w found some real tires, moved to a faster class and jumped up a nice amount

Thanks Tim for doing the course. I thought the first 2/3 was fun. The switchbacks at the end were a little busy for me but presented some interesting challenges. The kink with the water, between the middle slalom and the back stretch, was my favorite part.

Yeah, time to buy some new autocross tires. But which tires? Mark Foley, Opie, and Sam continue to go fast, and I know everyone else is looking at ways to go faster. I'm talking of autocross street tires, of course, but there are at least 5 possible choices this year. Maybe this will stimulate a discussion so we all (in street or ST, that is) will have better information to know what to buy.

Here are the contenders I know of in alphabetical order:
BF Goodrich Rival "S"
Bridgestone RE71R
Dunlop Direzza Z2 "Star Spec"
Hankook Ventus R-S3 "Version 2"
Kumho V720

The early results from Solo Tour and Pro Solo events this year show that the Bridgestones and Hankooks are the favorites so far. The guy at the Tire Rack I talked to thought that the Dunlops were best. The BFGs and Kumhos are just now getting out there I think.

What do you think? Please comment.

Bud I don't know about the Mini but Bmws favor the Hankooks. If I can get a car that can do more than one run maybe I can get back in the hunt. The water pump will be here on Friday.
