Team OMR at Solo Nationals 2016

Post by JimR » Tue Jun 28, 2016 10:17 am

Solo Nationals is the world's biggest motorsports event, with over 1,200 autocrossers expected at Lincoln Air Park in Nebraska this September. Your class runs two days (either Tue-Wed or Thu-Fri), but the party lasts all week. Huge courses, and a paddock too big to even fit in our Crowder autocross pad. You definitely need to see it in person.

If you want to paddock with us, let me know ASAP here or via Facebook or email, and include your SCCA member number. I will be sending in our request on Thursday evening, June 30, but you have to be registered for the event.

According to SCCA.com, group paddock requests will be available first-come, first-serve on June 29 through July 12.
...group paddock requests will be accepted beginning June 29 for groups of five or more. Each person in the request must be pre-registered for the event at the time of the request. July 13 will be the close for group registrations before the paddock reservation process opens July 20 to the general membership. People must be registered for the Tire Rack Solo Nationals to earn a paddock spot. August 24 is then when event and paddock registration will close.
In other words, register and respond ASAP!

So far we have myself, Kent, Bobby, and the Henry clan. I think Vonn still needs to register as of this morning.

Looking for the Peters to sign up?

Who else wants to join the fun?

It doesn't look like there is a rush - the registration form will be open for 10 days or so. I will hold off just a little longer while everyone gets registered.

Anyone else who has not contacted me, hop in. Register for the event, and give me your email address and SCCA member.

The group paddock reservations were sent a while back, but you can still sign up for Solo Nationals. A hefty late fee begins on August 10, about two weeks from now.

You know it's a good time when the supps call out driving things that aren't cars:
The operation of motorized vehicles, whether gas or electric powered, such as but not limited to, golf carts, and other personal transportation vehicles, is limited to persons who can present a valid driver’s license. Top-heavy novelty vehicles, such as motorized bar stools, are not permitted.
My class (CS) is currently just a few entries away from breaking the class attendance record of 67 drivers (tie) held by SS in 2007 and STX in 2014.

Honda of America Racing Team is bringing a 2017 NSX to run for exhibition in SS.

The entry cap is 1,300 people, and tonight the count is 1,265, an autocross record. We'll see which happens first, the event filling up (never happened before) or the late fee going into effect on Wednesday morning.

The paddock is reportedly larger this year, with the entirety of the concrete ramp being reserved for the SCCA. You will definitely want that bicycle, pit pike, or pair of adult Heelys.

Entries hit 1,300 around 11AM. Solomatters announced just now that the cap will be raised to 1,350 to accommodate the wait list that formed today.

I'm guessing you probably want to register right now if you want to get in.

The word from Koni:
The KONI Service Trailer will be on station in our normal place between grid and paddock from Saturday morning through Wednesday evening doing KONI damper testing and any service work that can be done on board the trailer (testing if we have the fixture tools, most rebuild/revalves, no machining or welding, etc.). All labor is done at no charge and there will be minor charges for any components needed. As in the past 15 years, all work is done on a first come/first served basis at two priority levels: #1 dampers being used at the event and #2 dampers not being used at the event. The sooner that you get parts to us, typically the sooner that you will get them back but we cannot make guarantees that everything will be completed due to time limitations, mechanical issues (rusted or bent parts), etc.. If you have a particular project that you know that you would like addressed at Nationals, please contact me in advance in case some advanced discussion, preparation, or special parts and tools need to loaded before departure.
Also, Bridgestone will be on site with its trailer for tires and mounting for both the Pro Finale and Solo Nationals. Ron with R&S Racing will also be there for race tire and mounting/balancing.

Look! New run/work order:

Not every class changed, but CS runs now second, working either fourth or fifth.

I was slated to run fifth. I'll take it. Sitting in impound cuts into my paddock partying time.

I got registered for ESP, running Thu-Fri.
Anybody know anything about the paddock, let me know. I'll be at the autocross this weekend on 8/28.
