how did you mess up all that stuff? Don't even start to say it was from Autocross....CivicSiguy wrote:Well, I got a 41.902 with 2 or 3 runs, no grease in my CV joint, and two bad axles
I'm so happy Honda warrantied my stuff. The invoice was two pages...

Sam, if you could pull FTD with 120hp, I'd hate to see what much more power would look like!
Don, wow, what happened? I know a couple of guys who autocross late-model Civic Si's regularly who haven't had any trouble with axles. Some third-gear grind problems, but not CV joints. Have you been racing with Nawsssss without telling us?

Autocross was not the cause of my CV catastrophe. And no, I would never No2 my car...or any car under warranty for that matter! After another 2.5 years, I might do S/C maybe...but I'm just not a nos fan.
All I know is Don Wessel took care of the problem, and everything is right as rain. Would highly recommend that dealership.
I personally think the problem with my axle/CV boot leak was a result of when I had -60 degees of camber...well, but thats a whole different story

His raw time would have been around a -38.50ish as a result of time dilation.JimR wrote:Sam, if you could pull FTD with 120hp, I'd hate to see what much more power would look like!
However, I think his miata surely has more than 120hp.
Edit: not a miata...thinking of another super-fast autox guy

Yeah it might e be 121 right sam... unless you took the plate out, and got another 4 out of it. Really Bud is the one who killed us out there... The PAX results verify it... Mark and I should have been close, but we should have covered bud by .8 seconds or so and we couldn't do it... Bud's solo program is coming together very nice! Mark's too, but I think he just had an off day...
I'm happy just to be in the mix with my little yellow jelly bean... But it could be bad for my budget... makes me want a fresh set of solo tires and some non race brake pads! It'd be easier if they'd just beat me bad so I wouldn't think "i have a chance"...
sorry for rambling...

Last Auto-X
Hi All,
What an interesting autocross we had last Sunday. First heat was kind of like staging an event on a public road, which was where I cut my teeth in competition with my '58 Ford with 4.11s and......er...I think I'll save that story for when someone wants to hear it over a tall cold one. First came a big-burly trucker and his wife wandering onto the course in a Cavalier, and he was by-gawd determined he was going to take his truck on the road come hell or Miata. Turns out he was a good guy who didn't mind sitting in his truck doing his logbook while we went ahead and ran. Next came a coach in a Buick full of enough baseball uniforms to outfit a couple of battalions of players. Then the trucker was ready to go....oops, no he's not--has to check something. OK, now he's ready...except he can't get out the back way and has to back up and then run the last half of the course. I recorded 6 DNFs. And while the cone wall is open for the trucker, the game umpire in a Cadillac tries to sneak in and was peeved that he couldn't drive in like the other guy. We called him out and he headed for the dugout. I thought the infield might have to be covered but the rain only bothered one or two runs of the first inning...I mean heat.
Jim did a nice job on the course under difficult conditions owing to shorter time to set up and more pavement degradation. I was continually amazed at how fast you could do the big sweeping right-hander at the bottom of the hill, and how quickly you got to the turn in point. I loved it! I'm not sure I ever did it fast enough. I found the middle sections impossible to look ahead on though, at least with my vision--good acuity but slow to focus--and was mostly just reacting and dodging cones. It seemed there was always a cone right in front of me. I feel lucky I was as clean as I was. I really liked the last section too; you could set up in advance of the last gate and finish really strong.
I typically don't do as well with those quick back and forth sections, but Mustangs typically do, so the car made me look good in this case. I worked corner 4 and noticed that most people were having trouble with those offset gates after the turn-around. It appeared there was no way to go fast. The best way looked to give it up bigtime on those first two gates, and that opened up the rest of that section. That third gate would bite a lot if you didn't give it up on the first two.
There were some really close class battles. Well done Jim and Ted in B Stock, separated by only .016. Also D Stock, where Gary and Chuck were only about a tenth apart. Jeez, if Sam gets good brakes and good tires all the rest of us are also-rans. The Solo Committee again did a great job. Thanks Matt and the rest of the crew. I also appreciate how well-presented the results are. Very easy to read with lots of information.
I have sent in my Solo Safety Steward application to national, and may be licensed by the next event. As soon as that happens I will be glad to serve in that capacity.
