Can a non-scca member race a divisional?

Hey all, I've got a friend who has been wanting to try autocrossing, but seeing as we haven't had an event yet, he hasn't been able too. I know that it's not the best event to learn autocross, but he'll be in H-stock with me, so we can console eachother at the bottom of the pack. Anyway, can he race in the divisional if he's not an scca member?

Now that the SCCA has the Weekend Membership program, all entrants are technically SCCA members.

Weekend-only memberships would be valid to enter our divisional event, and we won't turn them away. However, some cautions:

• Online pre-registration only, so no walk-ups. To establish a headcount for the banquet and heat sizes, divisionals will charge a late fee after a certain date, then deny new entries altogether a few days before the event.
• It's a two-day format scored using a combined time from each day, so entrants will need to be present for both days. Otherwise, that could leave us gaps in worker coverage.
• The event will run with a little more clockwork than regional events - things have to happen on time and a little earlier to keep the event going smoothly. We can't grant leeway on things we have sometimes let slide locally, like SCCA-legal class letter and number marking, and being on time for work assignments.

A divisional wouldn't intimidate most people who have done a few monthly regional autocrosses. I can't guarantee it wouldn't be challenging for someone who hasn't done this before, though.

Anyone who follows the necessary steps is welcome to enter, but I would personally recommend getting his feet wet in some regional-level events first.

This was my same question, glad to see it already answered. Since I am not a "official" member as of yet, should I show up earlier then most will so I can get a number and what not? I was hoping to already have all this out of the way, but we all cursed the snow this year...

in what other location can you have 70 degree weather and tornado weather, then a day later have snow falling?

Since we are hosting a round of the Midwest Division SCCA Solo series in this case, for this event we aren't using the regular OMR season's reserved numbering.

You can choose any number, provided someone in your class hasn't already signed up for it at this event. You will pick the number when you register online.

Ok, so if he decides to go, we have a couple questions. He's got a Jetta TDI, so watching a diesel race is going to be fun. The question is he said he's got a tune on it, as well as a different clutch. Now, the clutch is predated, and it's a VW part, just from a different VW. Is he still in H Stock? I'm not certain how that taking parts from previous model thing works.

The tune will move him to a higher class. Street Touring is probably okay, as long as the tune didn't directly change boost:

Street Touring boost rule: Boost changes indirectly resulting from allowed modifications are permissible, but directly altering or modifying the boost or turbo controls, either mechanically or electronically, is strictly prohibited.

Stock class has an allowance for replacement parts, so the clutch is likely legal for stock class, provided it is not a performance upgrade and meets the rules below.

Stock class rule on replacement parts: Alternate components which are normally expendable and considered replacement parts (e.g., engine and wheel bearings, seals, gaskets, filters, belts, bolts, bulbs, batteries, brake rotors, clutch discs, pressure plates, suspension bushings, drivetrain mounts, etc.) may be used provided they are essentially identical to the standard parts (e.g. have the same type, size, hardness, weight, material etc.), are used in the same location, and provide no performance benefit.

May not be legal for a St class/s. Cant change the Clutch, Pressure Plate or flywheel unless its what was originally on the car. However if the clutch (is that that you meant or was the flywheel lighter/PP stronger/lighter) has the same part number then you fine (or was an option). There are no update back date allowances in ST classes at all. ie. if the car came with fog-lights as "Standard" you must run them...
I had a guy complain once when i had removed the rear marker lights in STX so i taped them in to be compliant..

SP classes do make for allowances to the said modifications. Can do lighter fly's, engines from earlier versions of the same car etc... ie: BMW 328 motor in a BMW 325i (e36).
