Hello AutoX'ers

Post by SykSVT » Thu Dec 17, 2009 8:53 pm

Hello All-

I was at the last Board Meeting to meet some of you and get a feel for the club. Here is what I've done, and/or read to prepare for my first season. Let me know if I'm missing anything.
1) Joined SCCA and paid dues.
2) Read the novice guide.
3) Printed off and read the SCCA 2009 Solo Rules
4) Figured out what class my car is in.
5) Getting a SCCA certified helmet.
6) Joined the Forum :D

Anything else I'm forgetting? Other than the obvious ( License, Insurance, etc.).

Thanks-
Daniel

Wow! You are way ahead of where I was when I started this business. My first time I just showed up, spread rubber everywhere, and then left embarrassed that it didn't turn out quite the way I expected. So you are on the right track. Oh yeah, remember to have fun!

Wow, you have your ducks in a row. 8)

Now, the hardest part: waiting until it's warm enough to start the autocross season.

Well when I set a track record for most cones hit at least I can say I know that's not the goal. But yeah, I'm probably going to just show up and throw rubber. Waiting is definitely going to be the hard part.

Evo Phase One bought and paid for! Anything else?

I tried to PM Matt about car numbers but get a server error. So can anyone else tell me the how, what, when, where of the car numbers. I'd like to choose if possible, its in the mid 300's so I doubt there will be any conflict.

I don't think it will matter for the school, really. We'll fix it up one way or another.

So far as Regional Competition numbers - we've got a "first come, first served" policy at the start of each season, and you keep the number for the year. I don't know if it has to be in the 00-99 and 1XX for the co-driver. If so - it'll be due to the scorekeeping software.

Jeanie and I plan to run 54/154 again this year.

It was probably the other Matt you sent the message to, but the Forums give that error message quite a bit and they always seem to go through. Anyhow to answer your question last year we allowed OMR members that ran at least 2 times the previous year to keep there number for all of the Regional Events and the list should be updated sometime soon. For everyone else it is first come basis starting with the first Regional Event of the year.

During the 2 day Divisional it is a different story, it is first come first served, and you can have more than one person with the same car number, as long as they aren't in the same class. We use a different website to register and as Bullitt2954 pointed out if you have a co-driver then you have to put a 1 in front of the other number (e.g. 54/154).

Hope this helps and I think that you would be fairly safe with a number in the 300's. Are you planning on getting magnetic numbers? If so 3 individual digits for each side can give you several options for numbers if you do ever go out of the region to AutoX. Also in case you hadn't thought about it a 9 is a 6 upside down and in a pinch a 5 can become a 2.
