Early registration for class numbers?

I have been out to the course and raced a few times . . . are there going to be early registration for numbers in our classes and how do we go about doing that?
I am just getting ready for the season to start and trying to tie up all the loose ends. . .

I do not have a number yet. . . i was not a registered member untill yesterday. How do I go about getting a registered number? Is there a contact to make sure my scca membership dues were paid appropriately? I signed up through the scca.com and paid. I have a scca member number as well. . .
Can I request a number before the first race this year so I can get my magnets made? If so I would like 30 . . . Mitchell Swanson C-stock

Numbers will be "assigned" after the first event of the year (March 22nd) on a first come, first served basis. In other words, show up as early as you can and it will increase your chances of getting that number. As it is, we have a problem near the end of the year when new drivers show up for one event and then don't return for whatever reason. Do we assign them a permanent number or don't we? How long until we allow that number to move around? These are the issues. That's why we've chosen to honor the numbers of only the SCCA members in the OMR region and to provide the resources to allow weekend members or SCCA members from other regions to modify theirs. And quite a few people who do travel from region to region a lot end up buying multiple numbers for just this circumstance.

The number game is a frustrating one. Every year anyone at the registration station hears at least a hundred stories about how someone has been using their number for 40 years or paid a lot of money to have them printed, etc. And no matter how we try to arrange the system there will always be a person who is still upset. At OMR we have chosen to allow one number per person, not per class. This makes timing and scoring much easier for new people running the AXWare software. And we are also allowing full SCCA members within our region to keep their numbers year over year. Beyond this we will have blue painter's tape and/or shoe polish for the first event for a driver to mark their car on both sides.

Not a criticism Matt, just an observation... I assume that this assigned number thing will not be in effect at the Divisional? I can't see how that would work.

Like I said, not a criticism. It doesn't affect me since I'm on the reserved list anyway. Which is good because my numbers are much more "permanent" these days. :wink:

The way I see it, Divisional events are subject to a (nearly) separate set of guidelines with respect to the minute details of number assignments, number of runs, amenities provided, etc.. The way OMR handles numbers will be in play for events that OMR conducts. In hosting a Divisional, we are doing just that, hosting.

I was actually assuming the same thing as Ironhead since it is not a OMR points event. I hadn't really given it much thought and am not sure how the pre-registration works since we will be using the Divisional's pre-registration software which we have yet to see. Ironhead if you have ever been a part of planning a divisional maybe you could give some insight on how they assign #'s as I have not ever helped plan for one.

Was never part of the planning but....

Car numbers at a Divisional are assigned in the "normal" fashion. This is also how it is done at a Tour or Pro.

Within each open class and ladies class the first driver (or single driver) carries a one or two digit car number. The second driver in class has the same car number but it is preceded by a "1".

Available numbers are first come first serve as the class fills.

IMO I think it would be a good idea to get used to doing it this way. It allows everyone experience in doing things the way they are expected to be done at a bigger event. Yes, I understand that I am saying this without having to deal with any software related headaches that may exist. My $.02 and once again, not a criticism.


FWIW there are height (8" for numbers - 4" for letters) and stroke width requirements as well.

That requirement will definitely be in place during the Divisional but we've often let it slide during our own regional events. As long as your number and class are visible and legible, we're fine with it.

People gave me a hard time at the STL Divisional for my self laminated class and number tag I made for my car on the plotter at work. They all told me I should get "real" magnetic numbers. I told them I'd spend the money on "real" numbers when they make me faster. That got an interesting look. :lol:

Numbers minimum 1¼" wide and class letters minimum 3/4". While we are on the subject Page 41 of the http://cms.scca.com/documents/Solo_Rule ... _Rules.pdf states all of the requirements of car identification. I would suggest that all of the new comers download this and take a look. If you know the question that you want to ask the answer will more than likely be in this document.

I have also heard at the Divisional you will be required to run a supplied "sticker package" with sponsors and such on your car.

We don't keep this list anymore since we are now using MotorsportReg.com to handle our pre-registration and number assignments, but like always OMR SCCA members numbers will carry over to next year. I actually deleted the "Sticky" post that I used to keep up to date and never thought about it being in the middle of this old post or would have deleted it also.

So basically we won't be assigning any new 2011 numbers until the first pre-registration next year so this is yet another advantage to registering early. I would suggest printing extra numbers, or at least a # 1 for co-drivers (they will be very useful if you go out of region anyhow). I hope this helps and if you have a specific # in mind just ask and I will let you know if it is even available, but if you don't pre-register early for the first SOLO then someone else could potentially swoop in and get the numbers that you just printed.
