SCCA's National SOLO Championship is being contested this week at Heartland Park-Topeka. Half the field ran Tuesday and Wednesday; the other half is running today (Thursday) and tomorrow.
There were 44 competitors today in E Stock on the "West" course. Bobby Jasan finished 19th with a best time of 45.155 sec. driving his Toyota MR2.
Jim Rowland ran 46.109 in the same car and ranks 28th after the first day of competition. The class is led by Miata driver Jerry Jenkins, Vancouver, WA who posted a 43.039.

After two days of competition....Bobby Jasan moved up to 14th Place with a time of 87.028 and Jim Rowland improved one spot to 27th with a time of 89.940.
Class was won by Jenkins (see above post) at 83.813.
Only two (out of 44) E Stock competitors drove something other than a Miata or Toyota MR2.
Trophies went down to 12th Place; Bobby missed the last trophy by a little less than one second.

Just got back. First impressions.
ES was the third biggest class and had its own heat, save five HSL cars. The only non-Miata/MR2 in the class, a Porsche 944, broke today and its drivers had to finish in other cars. Ultimately, it was a Miata/MR2-only class!
The courses were fussy, point-to-point stuff with slaloms, hairy offsets, and transitions in the middle. Only mildly entertaining, but no fault of the designers. The site is just small. Tight asphalt courses help Miatas, and they've run up front with the previously dominant MR2s for the last two years at HPT.
I put in a mediocre drive, and got a mediocre result. Among 44 drivers, I was hoping for low/mid-20. Had I stayed clean (few did), I might have been a few spots higher and made it there. 27th won't make me lose sleep, though. Your "A" game at Nationals doesn't match some guys on a bad day.
Perfect weather, for once. The usual big crowds, tight finishes, and spectacle of Nationals. Plus a little drama.
This afternoon the trailer carrying the MR2 burned up a wheel bearing in Kansas City during rush hour on I-435. The MR2 was left in Kansas City with one of our ES competitors, and Bobby's limping the unloaded trailer home on one axle.

Were you guys (and Me) the only people from Spfd that competed at Nationals?And when you guys get your survey make sure you vote for your favorite new Nationals location. HPT/Blythville AR, Lincoln NE.

Heh, no one from Springfield went, just from OMR. 
We ate dinner one night with a couple from Nebraska Region. The site in Lincoln sounds like the spot. Really awesome site. The only problem was that they didn't know it might be available for autocrossing until a few weeks ago.
If Lincoln doesn't pan out, Blytheville is better than HPT...or no Nationals. Arkansas Region has hosted several ProSolos and Tours in the last few years, and they've all been extremely well run. Most people just don't know anything about the geography or demographics of Arkansas. A few weeks ago a douchebag in a Tulsa bar (salesman, from a coast) told me he thought the entire state was full of corn.

When I get my survey im voting for Lincoln. Its a town of about 350,000 people and can support a large amount of out of towners. Even though people would love to see all the corn in AR
